paint mines

Today I wanted to share a few pictures from our Mother's Day weekend trip to Paint Mines Interpretative Park. I know it's more than a week late at this point, but tis the season lately on this blog of mine.

So true story, while some people thing social media is ruining the world, I actually found this park from following a photographer on Instagram. It looked like a really cool park to explore and as it turns out it was about a 2 hour drive from our house. Ordinarily that kind of driving commitment is hard to get approved in my house, but since it was Mother's Day, I won the day.

The park mainly centers around these rocks with alternating and multi-colored clay layers. As a part-time hobby geologist I really enjoyed the park but I do wish they did a bit more to explain why the layers were colored. The more science you can throw in, the better (in my opinion).

There is a loop trail system that we attempted to complete but got caught up in exploring the rocks that we abandoned the latter half of the loop.

It was a busy weekend, so getting out on the trail to start was kind of a nice way to avoid the crowds for a while. Also, there is basically no shade out there, so be aware if you aren't heat tolerant you should avoid the summer season.

Oh hey there, 30 week pregnant bump!

back in Colorado

Now that our little family has moved back to Colorado, we're trying to shake off the feelings of loss from moving and get excited about where we live now.

So first, let's have a little history lesson. When you first met me (first blog post, yikes!) we were living in Denver, had just had our first baby, and were really enjoying the city and mountains. We were first time parents, so there were a lot of posts like this...

Flash forward to 2014, we had the opportunity to move back to Montana. My husband and I both went to college there and we wanted to move closer to our family. Now that we had one daughter and another one on the way, we felt it would be nice to have a support system close by. The idea of living a slower life with more open space really appealed to us. And we were able to live there for two years.

Well, as the saying goes, 'the best-laid plans of mice and men, often go awry'. The office where I was working closed its doors and asked most folks to transfer. So here we are, back in Denver, Colorado.

Now that we are back, we are re-discovering all the things we loved about living in Colorado. Many of them we haven't even had a chance to do yet because of all the unpacking and new house projects we've taken on. Today I wanted to share a quick list of the things we really want to try and do now that we get a second chance at this Colorado adventure.

> drive to Moab (it's only 6 hours away!)

> hike another 14er or two (a 14,000' peak)

> go see more concerts at Red Rocks or any of the other awesome music venues in Denver

> get up into the mountains more (while trying to avoid peak traffic)

> schedule more date nights

and last, but not least

> travel more! flights out of Denver are much cheaper than Billings, MT

Any more suggestions for us? I know there are many, many more things that Colorado has to offer, so I'm anxious to get to know more about this state!
