the Christmas that was

Hi! How are ya? It's been a while!!!

Happy New Year, by the way!

But before we get to all of that, I thought I'd share a few photos from our wintery holiday vacation in Idaho with my family. It was freezing cold (actually below freezing), but very warm and cozy inside my parent's house with most of my siblings and their kids all staying under the same roof.

It's a rather crazy tradition, really. At some point, our whole family (my parents, their six children, their significant others, and their children) can't all fit in one house anymore for the holidays. Finally this year, some of us had to stay at a hotel just to make sure everyone had a bed and a little bit of their own space. Also, somehow my parents have internet that is worse than dial-up speed, so keeping everyone entertained for days at a time is no small feat. There were definitely many crafts going on, programming questions being solved (that's my husband in his element), baking, sledding, skiing, gingerbread house making, shopping, and a fair amount of healthy discussions about politics.

My girls had an absolute blast hanging out with their cousins. They also suited up once a day to go outside into the sub-zero temperatures and snow storms to visit the animals with my Mom. Chloe had lots of fun snuggling up to Lucky (the horse). Who, I believe, was just happy to have a warm body petting him.

We got lots of resting in and didn't think about work or working on a house for at least 7 days. That was worth all the bathroom sharing and the long drive through Wyoming.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season!!

our family photos

The last weekend we were in Billings, we decided to quickly get some family photos in our favorite park. I wanted to capture some moments with our family right as we were leaving Montana.

I might be biased, but I think they turned out beautifully.

Thank you, Tina Stinson! You did a great job, as always!

our labor day weekend

Oh my gosh, is it already the middle of September? Where did the time go?

I couldn't let these photos hang out too much longer on my computer. We spent Labor Day Weekend out visiting family. Our first stop was Roscoe, MT to see the Ostrums. We got to enjoy some sunny weather and get in a little family time. Roscoe is really the cutest little town. I have dreams of buying that little house behind Chloe and fixing it up. It sits right along the river and has some really neat history to it.

On Sunday we went to Roberts, MT and had a going away BBQ for our family. It was really sweet of everybody to come on a rainy, wet day!

Chloe and Elinor got to ride Lucky and play outside in the playhouse. Elinor wasn't quite sure about that big animal, but Chloe was happier than a pig in mud (or a wet little girl on a steamy horse).

I was woefully unprepared for the cold temperatures we had, so Elinor had to borrow some gear from her uncle. She didn't want to take that hat off!

Elinor had fun with her twin cousins too. These little ladies are so cute!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

a day at the Montana fair

I'm a big fan of state fairs. So far I've only gone to Idaho's and Montana's state fairs, but each are a wonderful way to celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of the school year. This past weekend we took the whole day to check out the 4-H animals and projects, eat cotton candy, ride the kiddie rides, and try various fried foods at the Montana State Fair (#sharemontanafair).

Chloe absolutely loved all the rides, but little Elinor wasn't quite as sold on the whole idea. However, by the end of this ride she was waving at the crowd as she went by. Her Uncle Jace also helped make her feel nice and safe!

Chris and Chloe had lots of fun jumping up and down with these bungees. I was so impressed that Chloe wanted to get in the gear and leap up into the sky. She's not normally the most brave little girl, she's more of a watch and see how everyone else does first before she joins in type of girl. She honestly hasn't been on a carnival ride in two years, so this was pretty much a brand new experience for her.

These were the last rides that I went on, my stomach couldn't handle all the tight circles these little kiddie rides went on. Luckily both girls didn't seem to mind it.

Here's a little flashback from last year and a new picture from this year!

Elinor was sleeping in a front pack last year, now she's part of the fun!

get in the picture

Last Friday we went out to dinner. My favorite part of the weekend, usually, is going out to dinner as a family. We don't do it very often and it's almost always on the weekend. Well, after we had dinner at Applebees (chain restaurants are usually our jam), we sat outside for a bit to enjoy the fresh air.

I took a few photos of us girls hanging out in the grass. I've noticed that (a true sign that I've become a Mom) I really don't care what I look like in the photos lately, I only notice how adorable my kids are.

I also can't get over how cheesy Elinor's grins are getting. I love it.

And then, here's the Instagram version. Silliness x3.
