panorama point trail

Well, I hope you all having been having a wonderful week! It's been a while since I've popped in and shared some pictures. The weeks are flying by fast lately!

These pictures are from a little hike we took last weekend up in the mountains. I will say that hiking with a 4 and 2 year-old is not exactly what I would imagine hiking with an 10 and 8 year-old will be. I have these dreams about everyone excitedly taking off up the mountain, exchanging stories along the way, and stopping to to thank their mom for getting them out and about on regular intervals. Instead I have to make sure we have plenty of snacks to delay or stall a potential meltdown along the trail. Worry about whether the oldest will figure out how to pee in the woods this time. Try and make sure my husband's back isn't killing him carrying 35lbs on his back in a backpack that wasn't exactly meant for such a heavy payload.

Don't get me wrong, hiking is still enjoyable, but it's not without it's stressors.

I am very thankful though that we were able to drive a little bit and get some fresh air AND that we made it to the top!

I hope you all are having a good week. We're on the downhill slide!

my kid's favorite bedtime lullaby

On top of spaghetti,
all covered with cheese
I lost my poor meatball,
when somebody sneezed.

It rolled off the table,
And onto the floor,
And then my poor meatball,
Rolled out the door.

It rolled into the garden,
And under a bush,
And then my poor meatball,
Was nothing but mush.

The mush was as tasty,
As tasty could be,
And then the next summer,
It grew into a tree.

The tree was all covered,
All covered with moss,
And on it grew meatballs,
And tomato sauce.

So if you eat spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
Hold onto your meatball,
In case you sneeze.

And yes, I'm 100% serious. They love it and ask for the song every night.

a guest bedroom before and after

Good morning!

While this guest bedroom is not 100% complete, I thought it would be fun to show some before and after photos of our guest bedroom re-do.

Here are a few 'before' pictures. The previous owner had this room setup as a nursery/office area. The walls were a dark salmon color and there were many, many holes in the wall. All the white marks are where I had attempted to patch them before the paint job.

This bedroom gets a lot of natural light so it was begging for some lighter walls to really utilize the light and make it feel less heavy. The main work of updating this room involved adding lots of fresh paint and changing out the window treatments. We chose a light blue/green for the walls and some large width blinds from Home Depot. Blinds are a great option for letting light in without losing all of your privacy.

The current light fixture is a ceiling fan/light that I'm not really in love with. I'm on the hunt for a new fixture, but I haven't landed on one yet. We are also in the process of switching out the outlets because the previous owner painted those salmon pink also. Which, is highly annoying, so don't do that, FYI.

Here are some after photos.

I picked these prints up at Target for $3 each. #targetdoesitagain

We purchased a new bed frame and a new bed for the room also. I think the mattress and box spring we had in there were the ones I used in college. They were in desperate need of an upgrade and I am still embarrassed I had my guests/family members sleeping on such an old and uncomfortable bed in the first place!

The side table is a fun antique I picked up a few years ago and the mini-dresser is from World Market.

The coffee bean sack you see above the bed is one I picked up out of a bin at a farm and ranch store (for $1 a sack) in Montana a few years ago. I had plans to cover some chairs with the feed sack material, but I'm glad I just hung on to it. It adds a really neat vintage vibe and brings in some wood/natural fiber texture and tone to the room.

So despite needing a new light fixture, probably adding a wall mirror to the space above, fixing that mess in the cabinet, and some more touch up paint, this room is nearly finished. While I really don't like painting, it's amazing what a little change can do to a room. The paint I used was Lazy Days in Valspar from Lowe's. Also, let me know if you have any suggestions on a good light fixture for this room!

roxborough state park

Well guys, we made it to the end of the week! It's nothing but sleeping in and relaxing for the next couple days (well, if you're lucky). We will be trying to do both and probably won't really do either.

Today I wanted to share a few photos from our hike last weekend with my sister and her family. We were trying to figure out what to do together last Saturday and since my sister and I went on many a hike as small children, it's usually a go-to for a us. The kids and husbands are usually amenable and there is also usually some sort of ice cream treat at the end to keep everyone motivated.

Last weekend was no exception. After a small hike (mostly fresh air since my kids are not in the habit yet and are really pretty young), we drove over to Sonic and had some burgers and shakes. The scenery was pretty stunning, so I had to take a few photos.

chocolate and raisins

Hey everyone! I hope you are having a superb week so far! Mine has been extremely busy and hectic. I just started a new job and while it's been really fun and challenging, its also sucked up my spare time. But, it's never too late to share pictures of cute kids and Easter eggs, right?

This weekend we had some family come into town to celebrate Easter with us. Chloe and Elinor's cousin visited, so we were able to have a really fun Easter egg hunt and egg dying adventure. This year was probably the first one where we really went all out with the candy and Easter baskets. Up until now my kids were so young that they were equally excited about raisins AND chocolate, so I usually just put raisins in the eggs. This year there was definitely an excess of chocolate and sugar. Tis the season, right?

Have a good rest of your week! I'll see you around.

three up, two down

In the time honored tradition of three up/two down (okay, so I've only done this once before), I'm going to share three awesome things that have been going on lately and two not so awesome things. The point being, even if life seems hard, there is always one more thing you can think of that is good in your life.

> Hey, it's Spring!! The trees are flowering, tulips are opening, the grass is growing, and the outside grills are all getting used again! Spring has been a welcome sight around our neighborhood. We moved into our house in November, so I'm not really sure what our neighborhood looks like with green trees and mowed yards. I'm not even really sure what is a weed and what is a real plant in our yard. There are three new trees in the front of our house that were just planted last summer by the previous owners and they seemed to have weathered the winter just fine. I love trees, and the more the merrier, so I'm pretty happy about that.

> Everyone has been sharing pictures of baby chicks with me. My in-laws just got a bunch of chicks and a few little ducklings and I get updates on them all the time. While they are super adorable, it's hard to see everyone's little chicks! It makes me miss our little flock and how much silly enjoyment we used to get out of them. Chloe has been sad about it too, I have to keep telling her that we will have chickens again some day. Just not where we live right now.

> We are deep into potty training Elinor right now. Which in all reality, we should have done about 4 months ago. She has been ready for a while, we just needed time to dedicate to watching and helping her. She is actually doing very well. We are easing into it, but she has been a willing participant, so that's all you can really ask for. Also, chewy fruit snacks seem to be helping. :)

> I'm a person who needs something to look forward too. An event, a vacation, a visit from family, a date night with my husband, etc. Lately, we've been trying to plan a family vacation for later in the summer, but we are still unsure on whether we'll be able to go. I'm anxious to get that all settled and decided so that I can really start counting down the days. Luckily though, we've lately had a lot of visits from family to liven up our weekends, AND push me to finish some of my house projects.

> I finally finished (well 95%) painting in our guest room. It's looking pretty amazing, if you ask me. I plan on taking some photos of the room this weekend and showing you a before and after. I lightened up the walls and added some more art/vintage pieces to the room. It definitely has a 'Country Home' sort of feel and I'm really digging it. The joy I get out of designing a room is kind of crazy. In another life I would have been an interior designer.

Hope you're all having a fabulous week!!
